It is the year 2041 and I am a first year college student at the University of Florida. I wake up and get out of bed not by alarm clock, but by a new invention called the Vibra-Bed. Instead of an annoying alarm clock that only beeps, I set a time for the Vibra-Bed to go off and at that particular time it starts to vibrate and wakes me up. I then go into the bathroom and take a shower and instead of having to turn a pipe or faucet on, the shower turns on when it feels that I am under it, kind of like how automatic toilets and sinks are now. After my shower I clean my teeth, but not with a toothbrush as you would assume. People don’t use toothbrushes anymore; they use gum that you chew for 10 minutes and it cleans your entire mouth. After I’m done cleaning my teeth, I go to my new touch screen closet that only recognizes my fingerprint. I put on what I want to wear that day and I get ready to start my day. Instead of a shuttle that takes students to class, every student is given a teleportation device that works throughout the whole campus. With this new teleportation device, students just turn it on and select which building they want to go to and the device immediately teleports he or she to their class. This saves time and money. I get to my first class and might I add, teachers aren’t in classes anymore. Teachers hold classes through a new revamped version of skype that allows them to teach an entire class at an astounding 1670p High Definition quality. It is as if they are right in front of you. After class I teleport back to my room and go straight to sleep.

Skunk Ape.
The Skunk Ape Tutorial is a tutorial used to help students find valuable resources in the FGCU library. During the tutorial you research information about the ape creature and along the way become more information literate. Each module is designed to help the student become more comfortable in their research abilities. The tutorial helps to better students grades and make them more confident on research assignments and papers. I’m not going to lie there wasn’t much I did not know before the Skunk Ape Tutorial, but I learned that it can get you a job at FGCU because they might ask you to research things about your job where the tutorial may come in handy with the research skills you’ve attained. Some things I did know before the tutorial is that employers may ask you to research your job before you actually get the job, journals, websites, and articles are all good forms of research material, and research is used in all facets of life even after University life.

Big Five For Life
Setting goals for oneself is essential to living a complete and happy life. In order for me to consider my life a success I must first successfully complete my degree in communications. Completing my degree is the first step to a successful life because it will open up opportunities in the future. My second goal is to obtain a well paying job. A well paying job leads to money and money leads to happiness because it will mean less financial stress on my family. One day I’d like to live a nice, lavish lifestyle where money is no object. My third goal, also in my opinion the most important goal, is to be able to provide for my family. The word “provide” is not only limited to financially, but also emotionally and spiritually. I want my family to have the best of everything and get the most that they can out of life. If I can successfully complete this goal I believe it can greatly help them to achieve their goals. My fourth goal is to have a positive impact on people’s lives everyday. I just want my positive attitude to rub off on people and cause them to have a positive attitude towards others which will create a sort of chain reaction. Last but not least, I want to be well respected. Whether it be in the workplace, classroom, or even in a supermarket, I want people to know who I am and respect me for being an enriching person throughout my life.

The Welfare System
A heavily debatable topic in US government over the years has been the topic of Welfare. Welfare came about as a response to the amount of families and individuals in need of aid during the 1930’s during The Great Depression. However, over the years US citizens have been accused of taking advantage of the welfare system. I understand that welfare was put in place to help people in need but I believe that you have to draw the line somewhere. I’m a firm believer that everyone should work to earn money and make a living. Some US citizens have become lazy and rely on government “cheese” to get by. People abuse the welfare system by having more children to get more aid, staying unmarried to qualify for better benefits, or simply just not applying for jobs because they know the welfare system will take care of them. People will literally just sit at home and do nothing but collect that government check when it comes in. I believe that this is unethical and that Americans should take responsibility for themselves and their families.
